Established in 2021, the Department of Data Science under the College of Informatics at Korea University fosters talent in data science to meet the demands of the IT industry for data-driven technology.
The curriculum is designed to lay a strong foundation in computer programming, data structures, algorithms, discrete mathematics, databases, and artificial intelligence, and offers intensive courses in data analysis, data visualization, and big data processing.
Under the guidance of top faculty of the College of Informatics, students will gain the necessary knowledge and skills to become leading data scientists.
Education Details
The undergraduate curriculum aims to deliver the latest data science knowledge, covering data collection, processing, search, and training across key areas of the fourth industrial revolution, namely, artificial intelligence, machine learning, deep learning, and computer vision.
After gaining fundamental knowledge in computer science (computer programming, data structures, algorithm, discrete mathematics, database, artificial intelligence, etc.), students can take intensive courses in data analysis, data visualization, and big data processing. The goals of the Department of Data Science are to foster interdisciplinary talent with high competency in data science and related applications, and to be recognized as a world-class department.
Careers
Graduates can join software-related companies such as Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, SK Telecom, and Hyundai Motors, portal companies such as Naver, Daum Kakao, and NHN, game companies such as Nexon and NCSoft, overseas companies such as Google, Facebook, Amazon, and Qualcomm, and IT-related national research institutes such as the ETRI and KISTI. They can also utilize their software-related knowledge as patent attorneys or other legal professions.
